Responsibility for the product

|G4-DMA Health and Safety of Clients, G4-PR1|

One of our main objectives is to safely deliver to our customers products and services with quality. To this end, we evaluate 100% of our portfolio based on Occupational Health, Safety and Environment criteria, which contributes to the identification of opportunities for improvement in our processes.

Annually, we produce approximately 2 billion liters of ethanol and 4.2 million tons of sugar Our portfolio has a variety of sugars intended for industrial purposes. We are also one of the largest producers of ethanol in Brazil, especially hydrous and anhydrous ethanol for the fuels market and ethanol for several industrial segments, such as beverages, cosmetics, paints, bio-plastics, and chemicals.

Our annual sales volume of fuels caters to sectors such as cargo and passenger transportation, industries, agribusiness, mining, retail, and aviation. Ethanol, gasoline, and diesel are marketed under the Shell brand.

100% Quality

In order to share best practices in quality control for the distribution of fuel, we conduct an annual campaign called 100% Quality. In 2016/2017, we published a primer containing guidelines, norms and procedures for the operational phases involving receiving, storing, and shipping. This material was made available to employees, partners, dealers, clients, and representatives of local unions as well as the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP).

In order to reinforce our commitment to this aspect, we created the Quality Day, when we highlight to our team the importance of delivering the best product to our clients.

In terms of logistics, we rely on internal and external teams that inspect the processes involving storage, distribution, and supply of products - a task guided by the Operations Manual and by the Transports Manual and Maintenance Manual.

Retail infrastructure

Products marketed in our network of service stations undergo rigorous processes of quality and traceability of fuels, from the time they leave the terminal up to delivery to the end client. Products come with a report that guarantees the compliance of the originating tank.

In order to offer the best consumer experience, we have in place a solid infrastructure to cater to dealers, which yields greater agility in managing operations through automated processes for taking orders, logistics and collection. In addition, we invest in training for the teams in our service station network on topics such as: quality control, empowering sales, safety in fueling operations, environmental control, and operational management.

These initiatives reinforce our commitment to the quality of products, customer services, and safety of operations. Click here and learn more about the safety aspects at the service station network.

Best performance attested

The development of additives by Shell to be used in Brazilian fuels have advanced technology for differentiation in engine performance. The Shell V-Power Nitro+ and Shell V-Power Racing have an exclusive package of additives that reduce wear between the moving parts of the engine that come into contact with the fuel. Furthermore, we exclusively market the Shell V-Power Ethanol1, the only ethanol with additives on the market - with a cleaning formula that improves the response in flex-fuel engines. Fighting fraud

|G4-DMA Public Policies|

We maintain strict control to fight fraud, with several prerequisites for approval of carriers contracted. Additionally, in the 2016/2017 harvest, the entire fleet was monitored via GPS and cameras.

In order to lead initiatives in this industry, we support the National Union of Fuel and Lubricant Distribution Companies (SINDICOM) in launching the movement called Combustível Legal, intended to debate unlawful activities, such as default, tax evasion, and adulterated fuel. Ads were published in newspapers and magazines, and a website was created with information about this topic. Click here to see.

Evolution in Bonsucro certification

Bonsucro | Confirms the sustainability of the processes in the sugarcane production chain based on parameters set out by the European Union, considering the economic, environmental, and social aspects. In 2016, we achieved this certification for the Benálcool, Mundial and Tarumã units – now totaling 16 production units holding this seal, which represents nearly 30 million tons of our sugarcane. We plan to end the 2017/2018 harvest with three new units certified and ratify our objective of certifying all our 24 units by the 2019/2020 harvest.

California Air Resources Board (CARB) | California Regulatory Authority (US) that oversees compliance of fuel production and transportation with the Low Carbon Fuel Standard in force in that state.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) | Registration with the US Environmental Protection Agency - requirement for marketing ethanol biofuel in the country.

FSSC 22000 | Food Safety System Certification, recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), based on ISO 22000 and ISO/TS 22002-1 standards.

Halal | International certification that ensures production standards according to Islamic food laws (Halal).

All our ethanol production units are registered under at least one biofuel program of the United States.

ISCC | International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), which ensures compliance with the European Union parameters for sustainable production under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) (EU-RL 2009/28/EC). We hold this certificate for our second-generation ethanol.

ISO 9001 | Internationally recognized standard that certifies the Quality Management System (QMS), attesting to our ability to provide products and services that meet customer needs and comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

ISO 14001 | Certifies the Environmental Management System at distribution terminals.

ISO/IEC 17025 | International norm for standardization of laboratory tests applicable to calibration and testing laboratories, accredited by the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO).

Kosher | International certification that ensures production standards according to Jewish food laws (Kashrut).

OSHAS 18001 | Certifies the Occupational Health and Safety Management System at distribution terminals.

Satisfaction survey

|G4-DMA Product and Service Labeling, G4-PR5|

To maintain the quality of our products and services in the fuels business, we measure client satisfaction in the aviation, retail, and business-to-business (B2B) segments through the survey Index5. On a monthly basis, a group of clients answers the survey and the results are audited independently. In the last harvest, close to 440 clients from different segments and regions were randomly selected every month and consulted by our internal team.

In addition to the fuels market, our Integrated Quality team monitors client satisfaction in the domestic market (DM) and foreign markets (FM) for sugar, evaluating aspects within three pillars: Relationship and Service, Operating Excellence, and Quality and Sustainability.

Experience at service stations

In October 2016 we launched Shell Box, the evolution of a pilot project to create an app to enable payment via cell phone. We were the first to adopt this type of service. Through this service, consumers can find the nearest Shell service station, make payments without leaving the car, and also participate in promotions in a very simple and easy way, everything using only the cell phone.

This app doesn't require the use of debit or credit cards, cash, or checks. While the vehicle is being fueled, the driver simply opens the app, types a six digit code, and quickly, simply and safely makes the payment.

The expansion of this payment functionality to all service stations of the Shell network is being implemented through our partnership with PayPal - a system that allows for the transfer of funds without using traditional methods, requiring only an e-mail account. Drivers in several states can already use the app, which is available for IOS and Android devices, and is accepted in almost 1,000 service stations. Learn more about the Shell Box app, or download it by, clicking here1.

Expansion of the Shell Select store network was also a highlight of the 2016/2017 harvest. The network of convenience stores offers even more comfort to consumers and expands the supply of products and services. Learn more in the Establishing Partnerships section.

Truck drivers are engaged via the program called Clube Irmão Caminhoneiro Shell which offers exclusive benefits and rest areas on highways. During the 2016/2017 harvest, participants also had access to The Benefits Club, through which they can record their stops at service stations and compete for prizes based on their fueling frequency. The website for the initiative was reformulated and began to offer a section for information about promotions and events associated with the program.
